Life President of the Club, Derrick Brazier RIP

21 Oct 2012

Derrick Brazier passed away on Tuesday afternoon16th October. Derrick was 92 and until last year he was a "regular" at the President's lunches on 1st XI match days. He was a great stalwart (the word was invented for him!) and one of the great characters during an association with the club of over 60 years, with his home backing onto the ground (he always said that the short walk home allowed more social time at the club bar!). Derrick was a past captain, Chairman and President of the club before taking on his Honorary Life President position, and was also heavily involved in the Gallows Corner Sports and Social Club for many years. He will be very sadly missed by all who knew him!

The funeral was held on Tuesday 6th November at 2pm at the Upminster Crematorium (the larger chapel) and the funeral passed by Gallows corner one last time for him on the way to the service. The wake followed at the Gallows Corner clubhouse and was exceptionally well attanded, a tribute to the man!

At an appropriate time following the funeral I understand from the family thatDerricks ashes were scattered at the ground, a last wish of his and one that will be remembered on match days and over a few pints! RIP Derrick.
