Colts Presentation Evening report

17 Sep 2012

The Colts section presentation evening was held at Gallows Corner on Saturday 15th September following an afternoon of Kwik Criket for the juniors and the match between the Club XI and the Chairman's XI. Colts Chair Richard Wall introduced all the lead coaches, who reported on the progress of the season just finished. The  poor weather of the summer caused disruption to both matches and training evenings, but there were considerable positives of performance throughout the season and encouraging progress by the colts on and off the field. Friday training nights saw a real buzz of activity at Gallows Corner! Thanks were extended to all the volunteers who took part on training evenings to support the coaches, and on match days to support the team managers; Richard emphasised that as with all sports clubs we rely on and encourrage volunteers and the support of parents and club members is vital and fully appreciated by all connected with the club as we build for the future! Richard announced that plans are well advanced for Winter coaching and details are being circulated. This will provide the opportunity for individual skills improvement and team involvement to further extend the abilities of the junior members.

Richard asked club Chair Andy Jenner to present the individual awards for each age group, which is an inscribed shield for the best batsman, best bowler and most improved colt in the age group. The coaches announced the awards with a brief resume the individuals' achievements leading to the award:

Under 9:
Batting award - Henry Hewitt
Bowling award - Robbie Hitchens
Most improved player - Christopher Knighton

Under 11:
Batting award - Alfie Williams
Bowling award - Henry Phillips
Most improved player - James Brown

Under 13:
Batting award - Harry Rogers
Bowling award - Charlie Haddon
Most improved player - Kiran Kullar

Under 15:
Batting award - Thomas Coomer
Bowling award - Harry Thompson
Most improved player - James Mayall

Richard concluded by reiterating how very proud we are of our colts section in the club as a basis for learning the game and graduating through to the senior teams at the weekend. Our 4th and 5th XIs contain a number of colts every week who are proof of that development, and with a young 1st XI containing players who have progressed through the club ranks we are looking forward to maintaining and improving on that tradition in future years.
