Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club - Colts Training

#Current Training (Covid~19)

Jamal Francis (ECB Level 2 Coach) has produced for us a number of age appropriate training sessions for our junior players to do at home during this #lockdown period.

All sessions can be done as part of your home schooling routine or in the evening and we would love for you to share via the GP&RCC COLTS parents WhatsApp groups any pictures or videos of your children doing the activities.

Coaching at the Club

Coaching sessions will incorporate a mixture of technique demonstration and practice, skill and fitness games and practice matches based on and following the principles of the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) program.

Some coaching will be done using the nets and hard ball (although net sessions may only account for up to 35% of time spent training).  It is important to cover all aspects of cricket such as:

  • Fielding – techniques of retrieving, intercept and throwing and fielding positions

  • Batting – repertoire of defensive and attacking strokes

  • Bowling – bowling action plus introduction to spin and swing bowling

  • General cricket knowledge – umpire signals, laws of the game incorporating the spirit of cricket.

Coaching times

Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 training takes place every Friday from April / May.

It commences at 18.30 and finishes at 20:00.

Players are requested to arrive by 18.15pm so that all those taking part in the training session can sign in and pay fees prior to the sessions starting.

Coaching for ECB programs such as All Stars & Dynamos will run outside of these days / times and those attending will also need to be registered prior to the start of those sessions.

Our transition pathway for those that graduate from All Stars will commence the week after All Stars concludes, usually around July.

Should poor weather result in the need to cancel training the message board on our GP&RCC website will be updated and Team managers will also send out messages through their Team WhatsApp groups.
