The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme

About the scheme
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme is designed to publicly recognise the achievements and contribution of GPRCC's younger members.  The presentation of the award certificate offers a great opportunity to celebrate on a regular basis, not just the achievement of the award winner, but also the achievement of the club.

Jack Petchey is one of the UK's most successful businessmen. Born in East London in July 1925, Jack came from a working class background with very few advantages. From an early age he showed the entrepreneurial skills that have aided his success.  With £60 to his name, he bought a motor car and founded his first Car Hire business. From there a thriving Car Sales business was formed. Jack eventually branched into property and in 1969 was introduced to the idea of a holiday complex in the Algarve, Portugal, which he still runs to this day.  Having just celebrated his 83rd birthday, there is no sign of Jack Petchey slowing down. He currently manages Petchey Holdings Plc and Petchey Leisure, a management company for several holiday resorts in Spain, Portugal and the UK.  In 1999, he set up the Jack Petchey Foundation as he wanted to give opportunities to young people in London. Over the last nine years he has donated over £50million to schools, clubs and projects which benefit young people in London. In 2004 Jack was awarded an OBE at Buckingham Palace, by Her Majesty The Queen.

This popular programme now operates in approximately 2,000 schools, colleges and youth organisations throughout London and Essex.  The scheme contributes millions of pounds each year to support youth work in those areas.  The Achievement Award Scheme aims to enable schools, colleges and youth organisations to recognise, reward and celebrate the achievements of their young people. Jack Petchey wants young people to raise their aspirations, believe in themselves and make a contribution to their society.  Achievement Awards are designed to recognise a wide range of achievement, it is not just about being clever, or gifted, but about putting the effort in and ‘doing your best’. The scheme works well because young people themselves are involved in nominating and selecting the winners.

GPRCC has been placed on the Bronze Scheme, which means we can make three awards each year involving younger members, parents and senior members.  Online nomination forms can be made anytime during the year via the link at the top of this page and awards will be made in May, July and September.  Anyone can nominate a young GPRCC member who has achieved something special.  This could be for excellence in cricket, a personal challenge, helping others with their game  – in fact anything which is a ‘personal best’ for that member.  Winners will be able how to ‘spend’ £250on something that will benefit all 11-25 year olds across the club.

Winners will be awarded a Jack Petchey certificate, pin badge and presentation cheque here at school, but every year in December the winners will be invited to attend a prestigious, regional Medallion Presentation Evening.  These are special events where the winners, their families and friends can really celebrate and be proud of their achievements.
