Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v SOUTH WOODFORD on Sat 05 Sep 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 14 runs (6)
Match report
Coming down to the wire for promotion between Park and Loughton, after winning the toss Park chose to field first and chase the neccessary win. Being on level points with Loughton, Park had occupied the promotion spot in the last week on games won. South Woodford were already crowned as champions of League one, so it was completely baffling that after accruing a respectable total of around 265 at the 52 over mark, they chose to bat on and use up time. With not much more that an hour and 20 overs to get 277 to win, Park battled hard. Thomas top scored with an excellent 83 and quick runs from Kulasena (29), Filmater (33) and Brant (40) got Park to within touching distance of a well deserved and justified victory, but with the light fading Park came up short by 15 runs from just 37.1 overs from a possible 40 in return, in comparison to the 56 utilised by their oponents. A great shame for the game, but a fine battling effort by all. Park can be proud of what they have achieved this year. Funnily enough, Loughton beat Harlow batting first to claim the second promotion spot, so congratulations to South Woodford and Loughton who I'm sure will pat each other on the back at the League dinner and enjoy each others company again next season in the Premier Division.
