LOUGHTON v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 23 May 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 14 runs (20)
Match report
Gidea Park and Romford lost the toss and were asked to bat first.
The inform opening partnership of Collier and Baker put on another excellent opening stand of 108 before Collier was caught and bowled for an aggresive 69. They laid the foundations for a Park to post a total of around 250 on what was a good wicket with a fast outfield. The middle order continued to accumulate runs without really dominating the bowling, and looked like falling short of their target before a quick fire 48 from Churchill got them to 244 -7.
Apart from a fine opening spell from Gordon, Park bowling lacked any consistently to exert any real pressure on the Loughton batsmen. A fine 61 from Wilden and aggresive 57 from S Greenhill looked to be taking the game away from Park. In the last 20 overs, Loughton required just under 100, with 6 wickets left. Churchill bowled Greenhill shortly before the last 20, but the rela changing point came when after hitting Gordon for a straight six, Wilden tried to repeat it next ball and was bowled. On what was now a wicket taking considerable spin, the lower middle order of Loughton found runs hard to come by against the spin of Churchill, and the swing bowling of Gordon and Filmalter.
Wickets began to fall and with Loughton needing 14 to win and only 2 overs left, Churchill had Sly caught and bowled to gain maximum points and remain top of the table.
