Match report The Park innings never gained any momentum in this Evening Standard Trophy match at Wanstead, firstly in the face of some tight bowling from Arif Saeed who conceded only 2 runs in his first 6 overs and later from a medium pace attack that simply bowled straight. Part time bowler Richardson produced amazing figures of 10-4-17-2 to reduce us to 76 for 6 and an embarrassingly low total was in prospect. Determined batting from Chris Collier and Dhruv Joshi took the total to some form of respectibility closing at 174 for 9 after the allotted 50 overs.
Defending this total was always going to be diifficult and an opening stand of 116 made a win almost impossible. The lads showed great character and fought back well with Mel taking 3 wickets to reduce Wanstead to 147 for 5. Sadly only one more wicket was taken late in the day with Wanstead winning the match by 4 wickets.
Not a good weekend and hopefully it will prove to be a one-off!!
