Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v South Woodford on Sat 26 Jun 2004 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 32 runs
Match report
Park lost the toss and were inserted on a typically good Gallows Corner pitch. the visitors' attack posed a number of problems early on but as the innings progressed the middle order imposed themselves, with Balwinder Kullar leading the way with a succession of drives in the top innings for the side of 53. He was well supported, initially by Jimmy and Andrew D'Cuz, until a late cluster of wickets immediately prior to the declaration meant only a par score for the conditions. South Woodford's early order proved obdurate and they made steady progress against some disciplined bowling especially from Wanger, who continued his fine recent form. the third wicket pair of Joplin and Williams took the score over the 100 and at 130 for 2 the position for the visitors looked promising with 20 overs left. Park's attack has a good measure of experience and they kept plugging away and sticking to the essentails. Once the break came, there was a clatter of wickets as Wanger bolwed straight and true to knock over the middle order and set up the win with fur overs to spare, finishing with the excellent figures of 5 for 42 off 19 overs. another 20 points for a win batting first and we are still well in contention!
