Chelmsford v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 07 Aug 2004 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won GP&R won by 3 wickets
Match report
A great team performance provided us with another much needed win in this very tight Division. Good bowling backed up by excellent fielding and catching enabled us to dismiss our hosts for only 190. Bezza turned in his usual good opening spell removing the dangerous Dave Thrift for only 4 runs. After this Richard Wall took over to produce a really tight spell of slow bowling, backed up by his unlikely spin twin James Patient, Max ended with excellent figures of 4 for 54 from 19.4 overs with Jim getting a rare chance to display his all round skills taking a cultured 2 wickets. 2 run outs helped in closing the Chelmsford innings for a modest looking target,
Modest as it was a target of 190 looked a long way off as 3 wickets fell for only 14 runs in reply, Once again Jim stepped up to the plate and a gutsy stand with Tommy Montgomery began to put the innings back on course. When Tom fell for a vital 23 Jim was joined by the skipper and they took the score to 99 before the former's departure at 99. There was still a huge amount to do and with 2 more wickets falling after a flurry of 4's from Branty a win was unlikely at 126 for 7. Enter Max Wall who completed an unbelievable personal performance by blitzing a superb 43 not out in an unbroken 7th wicket stand of 66 with Bigtime to win the game with overs to spare.
Carry on the good work lads!
