Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Ilford on Sat 05 Jun 2004 at 11.30am

Match report
Asked to bat first Ilford compiled a steady start with both Diwan and Chopra scoring 50's. Park let a few catches slip and some sloppy fielding allowed a steady run rate but Park became a bit more disciplined and started to claw their way back.Berry, Hussain and debutant Ryan Sammons bowled steadily and claimed wickets. Mel finishing with a fine 4 wicket haul but Park were to chase a mammoth score of 302 as Ilford batted out there 66 overs.
Park lost Hyam , Baker and Redwood early to leave 302 a very unrealistic target but what was to follow was near extraordinary. Leigh Davey and Andy Churchill slowly began to build what was to be an unbelievable partnership. Creaping past the 50 partnership and a full batting points of 4 was a distant target at 250 but they began to open up and accelarate as Ilford were single visioned in their aim to try and save the game. Davey and Churchill decided to accelerate and the score climbed rapidly and as 250 was passed with a 200 partnership, Leigh scoring his maiden century with a fine knock. Needing 80 off 8 the ball was planted to all parts as a victory for Ilford had long disappeaerd and they resorted to 8 around the line with no answer to the onslaught. Davey and Churchill, with another fine century launched the ball to all parts. Davey was finally caught at deep mid wicket needing 14 off 3 balls for an amazing 129 and with no chance now of a win Andy dropped anchor with 9 still on the line and both sides had to settle for a draw.
ILford were to suffer more later with news from the umpirers that their over rate was not up to the required rate as the game finished at 8 oclock, receiving news that they had had points deducted.
