Match report
Having chose to field Park were amongst the wickets early. Leigh Davey claiming 2 wickets and Andy Clarke 1, reduced Saffron to 28-3 from 9 overs. A steady partnership of 88 between Westley and staffer Tim Philips from 20 overs before Westley was caught by James Redwood for 44 off Andy Churchill. As the wicket flattened out and Philips and Grieg settled in, some slack fielding and generous bowling allowed Saffron to establish a momentum adding 150 for the 5th wicket.Grieg was caught by Barry Hyam off Andy Clarke for 57. Philips then went on to complete his 100 and with some fine shots got to 140 before being well caught by Barry off Richard Wall. Some hefty blows at the end saw the rate accelarate and Saffron finished on 314 for 7.
Park didnt get off to the best start with both Mel Hussain 0, and Andy Churchill a rare failure 15, both falling to played ons put Park in a difficult position. Always in with a stiff ask Barry set about reaching the total himself. Completing his 100 with 20 4's and 1 6 with the score at 134 gave an idea of his dominence. Around him wickets fell but Barry continued to take the game to Saffron and the distant belief of an unlikely victory appeared. Finally falling for 161 caught at cover, his innings spanning 38 overs facing only 97 balls containing 23 4's and 5 6's and only 23 singles was an innings of supreme class and a pleasure to witness. Andy Macinley then claimed 3 wickets in an over to put the score at 206-8 and Parks victory charge turned into a battle to survive and save the game till the end. Waheed Khan and James Redwood battled superbly adding 36 before Waheed thought he could still win the game in the last over!!!!!!!!!! holing out at long on with 3 balls to spare at 242 !!!!!!!!!!!!! James Redwood showed grit and determination finishing on 26 not out
