Match report Bancroft Lions won the toss and elected to bowl first

GPR lost both openers early before Harry (31no) and Arun (33no) consolidated the innings moving the score from 3 – 2 to 74 – 2; before both retiring. Unfortunately, thereafter, the GPR innings lost momentum and the innings subsided to 101 all out, with over 3 overs still remaining. Whilst, in part, the Bancroft bowlers bowled well, many of the batmen will be disappointed with their shot selection. That said, GPR now had the runs on the board and a target to defend.

All the boys bowled and fielded well, although again too many wides would end up being costly. Despite both Bancroft openers being injured, the opening pair managed to get through the initial burst and whilst wickets feel regularly, Bancrofts found themselves needing just 8 runs off the last two overs. With the balls running down, Bancrofts needed 1 to draw / 2 to win off the last two balls and with our fielders crowded around the batsman, they somehow managed to scramble two more singles to win the game off the last ball.

In what was an exciting game it certainly highlighted how important basic techniques are in cricket, with shot selection, bowling straight and calmness in the field being key. That said, the improvement and commitment of the team over the course of the season has been amazing and we move on to the next game with much to be enthused about.

Bancrofts move on to the quarterfinals and we wish them every success.
