Match report A well fought out game ended in defeat by 8 runs in U13 Peter Coe Cup.

Bancroft Lions won the toss and decided to bat first.

Our strong front end bowling attack restricted Bancroft early on, although the windy conditions made life difficult for the bowlers coming up the hill and we unfortunately conceded too many wides from that end. Despite some early losses, Bancroft’s middle order built a nice partnership of 60 runs and gave their lower order the platform to push up to a total of 152-7. Overall the bowlers bowled well and our spinners continue to impress; the wickets being spread amongst the boys. However, tighter fielding would have restricted Bancroft further and this together with the extras would prove the difference.

In reply, Bancroft bowled tightly and were well supported in the field. With the loss of our openers, Harry and Arun then set about chasing the runs down and we looked in good shape at 84 – 2 after 18 overs. However, with the pressure building we began to lose regular wickets and despite an excellent unbeaten knock from Sam, Bancroft’s end of innings bowlers made sufficient inroads to leave us short by 8 runs.

Despite the result, there is much to take out of this as we move forward and it was great to see some new members to the team gaining some much needed experience.
