HORNCHURCH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 21 Jul 2007 at 1PM
Match was Drawn

Match report Park won the toss for the second week running and asked Hornchurch to bat first in this top four clash on a pitch that looked as if it would be receptive to seam bowling, and immediatel Hafiz Ali and Andy Jenner exerted pressure on the batsmen. There was just enough seam movement and also swing which coupled with the good lines bowled meant run scoring was slow, there was alot of playing and missing. Eventaully the pressure got to the openers and Wadsworth was cought and bolwed by Jenner going for a big hit; Farquhar soon followed, caught behind the wicket by lee Carter off Hafiz, an Bill Stallard was run out after fine work by Ammar Zahid. The dangerous Tony willison was brilliantly caught by Graham Redwood off Hafiz and at the half way point the home team were in trouble at 80 for 4. This is when the match changed as a drinks break was followed by two rain breaks of 20 minutes and 15 minutes in quick succession, which meant a wet ball for the bowlers, and a dampened down pitch that was slower and much less responsive, as well as the likelihood of less time for the visitors to chase the runs. Despite the bolwing efforts, Mike Rowe played well for a hard hit 46 on resumption of play before being well held on the boundary by Jas Chaggar, whilst at the other end Simon Rowe played one or two nice shots but occupied the crease for 40 overs in scoring 66. The increase in the run rate was inevitable and the lower order chipped in to good effect, with another run out (Hafiz Ali/Lee Carter) and wickets for the persevering Jenner, who finished with 4 for 99 off 26 overs after some late punishment prior to the declaration. Hafiz finished with 2 for 38 off 16 very good overs and the declaration left Park only 50 minutes and 20 overs following the rain delays.
Jas Chaggar and Ammar Zahid put on 42 for the first wicket off 12 overs and the latter continued to bat well after being joined by Jerry Trayler. Trayler played himself in and then proceeded to hit the bowling to all parts of the field as Park chased down batting points which were the only realistic option given the lack of time to chase the runs in the 34 overs available. Jerry lost Ammar for 34 and Suki Jutla to a sharp catch shortly afterwards, but he blasted severn 4s and five 6s in 78 not out before time ran out with Park on 152 for 3. Park can feel that they would have won this match if the weather had stayed fine but honours even then in a rain afected match with Hornchurch taking 9 points and Park 6 points. There is still a lot of the season left and Park are in decent form at the moment.
