Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v UPMINSTER on Sat 14 Jul 2007 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 9 wickets

Match report At last some fine weather and a match that was well contested and played in good conditions and in good spirit at Gallows Corner. Park skipper Andy Jenner won the toss (a rarity this year) and asked the visitors strong looking line up to bat first. Right from the start Hafiz Ali and the captain himself hit the right areas and bowled to good lines and lengths, keeping the batsmen playing and bowling very little loose stuff. Hafiz generated some decent pace and just enough movement, and he produced snorters to remove opener Waghorn and number three Nick Ison, well held by keeper Lee Carter. He followed up by bowling Rob Tuffee whilst at the other end Gary Paget played solidly interspersed with some well hit drives. At the half way mark the score was only 72 for 3 and the Park bowling was supported by excellent fielding, creating pressue all the time. A change of bowling saw Harvir Jutla into the attack and he quickly bowled Paget for a well compiled 40 (six fours) and then a thrilling throw from Amar Zahid and excellent take by Carter saw Phil Tuffee run out to reduce the visitors to 90 for 5. Elliot Bussey played well hitting some crisp shots but there was no lengthy partnership. Amar Zahid's medium pace replaced Jutla and he immediately bowled Chris Cully. In an excellent spell and bowling in tandem with first Dave Cobill and then Hafiz he followed up with the next four wickets, including Bussey for 33 and aided by two well judged catches by Simon Trowse, to record his best figures for the club of 6.1 overs 0 maidens 21 runs 5 wickets as the visitors succumbed to 166 all out. Hafiz was rewarde with 3 for 44 from 15 overs.
Having given themselves the platform to push for a win Park immediately lost a wicket to a run out following a good pick up and thrw from Ison to be 1 for 1. Thereafter however neither Jas Chaggar nor Jerry Trayler looked in trouble as they compiled an unbroken stand of 166 to win the match. Upminster tried six bowlers and fielded well but could not find a breakthrough and Park ran out winners with 15 overs to spare in the last hour. Jas hit 9 fours and a 6 in 80 not out, and Jerry 11 fours and a six in 70 not out.
This was a fine all round display by Park. Next week sees the team visit table leaders Hornchurch.
