Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v CHINGFORD on Sat 05 May 2007 at 1PM
Match was Drawn
Match report
Chingford won the toss and batted first on what proved to be a very good batting surface at Gallows Corner. Both Hafiz Ali and Harvir Jutla made good use of the new ball, beating the bat regularly but unfortunately not finding the edge and the visitors openers put on 51 before they were parted when the introduction of Anil Patel's spin immediately produced a catch in the covers. A second wicket quickly followed but the third wicket pairing of Williams and Campbell played sensibly in a partnership of 116. An early chance went begging, and later Park were hampered when Andrew Jones damaged a finger in the field and for much of the innings only had 10 fielders, but the attack perservered and were never under the cosh and bowled their overs at a good rate. Colin Jones (fresh from the London Marathon!) produced the breakthrough by bowling Williams for 64, and the returning Hafeiz picked up two wickets by bowling Campbell for an excellent 71 and producing a Jaffa to dismiss Harborne for 0. A declaration as soon as 200 was posted left the match evenly poised. Hafiz finished with 2 for 34 and Patel 2 for 42.
Park's reply stuttered when Adam McKie was out with the score at 11 and Baljit Jutal followed with the score on 21. However, Jas Chaggar played a measured innings and he and Danny Feasey added 75 in reasonable time to leave 109 required off the last 20 overs. at that point Danny was caught for 23, Jas was LBW for 43 (6 fours) and a further wicket fell to leave Park struggling at 103 for 6. Anil Patel and Andy Jenner repaired the situation in a partnetrship worth 65, with Anil smiting two sixes and four fours in 43, but with 40 needed off 30 balls he was out for 43 and and another wicket fell straight away. At 168 for 8 a tight over put the result beyond Park and both sides settled for a draw, Jenner finishing 17 not out, in a well contested match played in excellent spirit. For Chingford Carey Harborne finished with 4 for 23 off 9 overs, and Tall notched 2 for 11 at the death.
