HAINAULT & CLAYHALL v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 28 Apr 2007 at 1.30PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 84 runs
Match report
On a blustery day at Clayhall Park we won the toss and batted first against a youthful Hainault & Clayhall team. the pitch was very up and down, with inconsistent bounce, and with the bowlers proving accurate and bowling a good length the batsmen struggled all afternoon. Left arm seamer Bananuarachi (2 for 8)and Bhadwaj (3 for 31) proved especially difficult and progress was slow. Jas Chaggar and Britjesh Patel both established themselves and looked in good order and took the score to 55 when the latter was run out by an excellent piece of fielding. 55 for 2 became 88 for 6 before a brief flurry of boundaries from Anil Patel and Steve McCormack raised the total to 113, and a final flourish from Harvir Jutla (21) ensured a reasonable total to bowl at of 151 made off 47 overs.
The home batting was an inexperienced line up in the main and with the pitch still proving difficult they found runs very hard to come by against a varied Park attack. Debutant seamer Hafiz Ali made an early impression wih good pace and movement to make inroads into the home teams batting finishing with 2 for 18, well supported by colt David Brett 1 for 22, and they were replaced by Harvir Jutla in a good spell of seam bowling that produced 3 for 10 off 5 overs. Veteran spinner Dave Cobill then stepped up with 3 for 0 off three overs, all clean bowled, before the final wicket fell to Britjesh Patel. All in all this was a chance for both teams to shake off the cobwebs in a very good natured and contested match, Park winning by 84 runs.
