Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v HORNDON ON THE HILL on Sat 08 Sep 2007 at 12.30PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by seven wickets
Match report
Upon batting first, Horndon made a good positive start to the game and put 73 for nil on the board in the first 20 overs. How different the next 32 overs were to be. Upon losing 3 wickets at the 100 mark, they then found themselves 103 for 4 and the Horndon skipper showed little faith in his fellow team and proceded to block the ball to all parts of the strip. He showed no intent of running the ball around to the gaps and produced an enthralling display of defensive class worthy of Chris Tavare in his heyday.
Carrying on past the 52 overs when he had chipped the score to 143 for 3, even with Park tossing the ball up with 28 overs of grenades, Park were forced to bring on their strike bowlers in Gordon, Kullar and Patient. Going on the attack, Park tried as they might and at one stage 7 slips and 2 Gulleys were seen in an attempt to find the edge. This only had the effect of bringing keeper Capp into the game and he produced a fine display, saving 3 at deep mid-off. The Horndon innings was finally declared at 204 for 6 at 64 overs.
After Supper, Park took to the field and Patient and Evans displayed the complete opposite from what was seen earlier. They went on the attack and produced some fine positive batting. The Horndon skipper was once again forced onto the defensive for the second time of the day and had fielders posted all around the boundary. This however was belittled due to a masterfall display as Patient and Evans raced to 110 for nil off 20 overs. They continued this and carried the score to 164 for none off 28 overs. If only for the fact the Horndon skipper needed a bowler and keeper, he would have had 11 on the boundary.
A run out from a great direct hit from D Goldtsone brought the demise of Patient for an excellent 71. Evans perished for an equally excellent 82 and Park finished the job in the 37th over for 3.
