Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v HARLOW on Sat 28 Jul 2007 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won By 2 Wickets
Match report
Park 2nd X1 won their second match of the league campaign with a very closely contested match against Harlow. On winning the toss, Harlow elected to bat and Park contained them well in the early encounters through Berry and Chouhan. Harlow set their stall out to contain wickets and never got going until around the 42 over mark and pressed on well and with wickets in hand, managed to get themselves up to 209 for 8, Baxter batting well for 66 Not Out. The 2 main contributions with the ball were, Brijesh Patel who bowled well and deserved 5 for 49 off 13 overs and Berry who bowled 22 overs and returned 2 for 54.
Park, confident on chasing down the target with lots of time available, started well, but went from 27 for nought, to 59 for 5. Ahmed doing the damage with all 5 wickets. G Churchill and B Patel then took about rebuilding the innings and played very sensibly with still a large amount of time available. The maneuvered the ball around and set about upping the rate at the right time and pushed the score over the 100 mark. They continued, but were then cut short when Patel was run out by a direct hit. They had forged an excellent partnership of 76 and Park were now 135 for 6. 2 batsmen came and went and Park were then 162 for 8. Harlow now were sensing victory and Park with only 2 wickets left, still had 48 runs to get, or 8 overs to survive for the draw. However, with Churchill still there and 6 an over required, Berry joined him and they set about the task in hand. With careful batting, and choosing the right shots at the right time, they kept the target at always a run a ball and Harlow began to panic. They batted superbly and it was fitting that Churchill hit the winning runs finishing on 77 not out and the games was over, still with an over to spare.
