Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v ARDLEIGH GREEN on Sat 09 Jun 2007 at 11.30AM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won won by 5 wickets. 20 points
Match report
High flying Ardleigh Green were asked to bat first, losing Butt in the 3rd over to Arris Afridi for 6 was a huge blow. Sean Mcmurray and Ian Russell added 77 in 22 overs before Russell was eventually bowled for 22 by the returning Ryan Sammons. Sammons produced amazing figures of 10 overs 1 wicket for 12 runs in his first bowl for nearly a year. Ardleigh Green skipper Roy smith was lbw to Churchill for 13, with the wicket starting to turn and the introduction of Ali Aslam from the other end any flow of runs dried up. McMurray batted through for 117 not out in the end and with tight bowling no other batsmen were able to make any significant contributions. Greens total of 248-7 should have been a challenging one on a now tiring wicket.
Luke Baker was caught at 2nd slip for 0 before Park managed to put a run on the board. Russ Collard and Arris Afridi made the most of the hard ball and quickly put 56 on the board before tea and really setting a good foundation. Both perished shortly after tea without adding to their score. Andy Churchill and Ali Aslam began to rebuild with a 50 run partnership and all looked well set to go on before Aslam had a rush of blood and was stumped for 29. Slowly Park grew more confident against the Green attack with Churchill showing great patience and Ammar Zaem showing wonderful touches Green had no answer. A partnership of 106 in 19 overs was only broken by a mix up resulting in Churchill being run out for a fine 62.
With 35 still needed to win Amar Zaem and Chris Swainland guided park home to a comfortable victory with 3.1 overs still to go. Zaem finished on a wonderful 93 not out with a towering 6 of Mudalige to give Park their first victory of the season
