Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v SAFFRON WALDEN on Sat 19 May 2007 at 11.30AM
Match was Drawn Draw 10 points each
Match report
Having won the toss Park soon claimed the early wickets of Westly, bowled by Davey for 0 and George well caught by Olivier for 1 off the bowling of Zaem. There was to be no further early wickets for park as Saffron fought back brilliantly with Joe Holland an attacking 76 and Ryan Sparrow a superb 133. With some indifferent bowling Saffron siezed the initiative but with Andy Churchill bowling with fine control Park clawed their way back into the game. After the dismissal of Joe Holland for 76 wickets fell at regular intervals but Sparrow's concentration was undeterred. Churchill claiming a 5 wicket haul from 19 overs. Sparrow finally fell to the bowling of Zaem.
Park got off to a good start with Collard and Afridi putting on 76 for the first wicket. Collard went for 39 to McCoubry who went on to produce one of the best sustained spells of pace bowling on a totally unresponsive wicket.Afridi went for 36. Choudry added 20 before being well caught and it was Churchill 45 and Amar Zaem who guided Park towards their total. Victory was always just out of grasp as McCoubry tied up one end. Wickets began to fell and with Westly aslo by now showing good control the match entered the final over with Park needing 17 off the final. Rudi Filmalter hit the first ball for 6 before being bowled but with 11 needed off the final 4 balls Park could managed only a further 5 runs to finish up 6 short. The match ending in a draw with both sides taking 10 points.
