Chingford v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 03 May 2003 at 2pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
Park lost the toss & were put in by there hosts. The game was played under league rules with the team batting 1st recieving a maximum of 52 overs & 20 overs from 6.30.
Chris Collier & Luke Baker got Park off to a fine start, puuting on 121 for the 1st wicket. After this fine start Park faltered as many of the batsman got themselves out picking out the fielders with an unerring accuracy. Skipper Derek Allen being the only other batsman to play with any authority. Park closed there innings on 194 for 9. The total appeared 40 or 50 runs less than what should have been scored, had the middle order appilied themselves more.
When Park took to the field the bowling was opened up by Jason Toogood & Ian Gordon. Jason bowled with good control bowling a full line & lengthuntil his 1st bad ball took a wicket. A thigh high full toss being whipped straight to James Evans at square leg. Ian Gordon seem to struggle a little but chipped in with a handy LBW, & when Mark Windebank replaced Toogood he chipped in with a couple of wickets bedfore a side strain prevented him from bowling for the rest of the game.
The 2 spinners in the Park attack then took centre stage Alan Croft & Phil Goldstone. Both tried hard, both at times struggling with his line & length. Goldstone the only one getting any reward, although the 2nd wicket he took, caught by Windebank only served to make Mark's injury worse.
Jason Toogood returned to bowl the last 5 overs from one end picking up a couple of more wickets. On the whole Park's attack looked a liitle tame & if they are to compete in the league it needs to toughen up more by next week.
On the fileding side Chris Collier starred on the ground fielding with some great throws, Luke baker provided some good stops & the throw which lead to the runout, Ian Gordon took a couple of catches, & wicketkeeper Patient playing his 1st game of the season may just wish you could erase his display completely from the game.
With the league starting next weekend I think we may all want to up our game to the next level.
