Match report Having lost the toss Park were asked to bat on what looked a better wicket than it actually was,slow and with very little bounce. Barry Hyam and Mel Hussain played with great patient and put together a handy opening partnership never offering Saffron a sniff of a wicket.They were separated with the score on 67, Hyam adjuged LBW for 36 to the ever asking Tim Smith. Mel and Andy Churchill added 49 before Mel was out for a fine 60 caught by Earl off the bowling of Parminter.Park looked to accelarate after lunch with Andy and Leigh Davey adding 54 for the 3rd wicket. Andy completing another fine 50 before falling to Smith for one more run caught at mid wicket.A partnership of 47 between Leigh and Russ Collard again frustrated Saffron as the boundaries started to flow and the score accelarated towards 200. Davey was next out caught at deep mid wicket for 48.Andy Clarke joined the fun and added with Russ 41 off only 8 overs before clarke was agin caught at long off for 14.Collard was next to fall for 43 and a couple more wickets were lost as Park sought those extra runs.
Saffron started off ok but Parks line and length and patient were rewarded as Saffron fell behind the rate.THe fielding was enthusiaistic and put the pressure on Saffron. Leigh Davey made the break though removing Plumb LBW for 18. Ecclestone and Sparrow never really got going and Sparrow was finally out for 28 caught by Batch at mid off.Ecclestone and Slabbert struggled to come to terms with the pace and disciplined bowling. Ecclestone falling to Andy Clarke well caught by Barry Hyam down the leg side. Clarke then removed Earl for 1 and then followed that up by bowling Gladwin for 3 . Park sniffed victory and when Collard bowled Holland for 1 there was the chance of victory but alas the pitch played true and a hard fought draw resulted with Park moving top
