BASILDON & PITSEA 4TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 13 Aug 2011 at 1PM
Match was Drawn

Match report Playing on the Basildon main ground Park won the toss and elected to bat on what proved to be a reliable but slow pitch. Steady progress was made by openers Ian Greenwood and Sampath Gamvasam aginst some good new ball bowling by Parkinson nd Edmonds, and they put on 44 before Greenwood was bowled by a good one. Chris Lamb attacked but the next to go was Sampath when he chipped to cover for 33 and Chris fell for 23 to make the score 103 for 3, which quickly became 110 for 5. However, a great stand by Salim Patel and Shaz Jabar added 72 both playing some good strokes and finding the boundary as the home attck wilted. Salim (8 fours, 2 sixes)at one point had nine men on the boundary, extaordinary at this level! Shaz was well held in ther deep for 34 (5 fours, 2 sixes) and skipper Andy Jenner addd 38 with Salim for the 8th wicket before declaring. The Bsildon over rate was funereal and only 48 overs were bowled by 4.25pm, with 19 extra wides and no balls extending the time. The Basildon batting has been performing well this season, but initially they were kept in check and Shaz Jabar stuck early when Healey strangled one down the legside to be well held by 'keeper Patel. Shaz then removed the next three including John Bedford for 24 having played some good drives, and colt Harry Thompson removed danger man Smith (who was on the back of a century and some good scores) for 24 and at the last hour the score was 75 for 5. Thereafter Ian Greenwood wheeled away with colt Arun Kullar as Sean Healey blocked his way to 9 not out off 20 overs with immaculate defending while Park tried to chisel out the remaining batsmen. Danny Long made the breakthrough thanks to a diving catch by Wasim Nawab, and Greenwood removed the next three to make for a tense final 10 balls, but Healey held firm and the final score of 101 for 9 meant honours shared. Greenwood finished with the remarkble figures of 3 for 3 off 11 overs, and 8 maidens, and Jabar 4 for 31 off 12 overs. Another game played in very good spirit by both teams and an enjoyable day!
