Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 16's v Fives on Mon 08 Aug 2005 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 39 runs
Match report
Well we gave them a fright but the better team won at the end of the day.
Fives won the toss and elected to bat as only 8 of their players had arrived and they got off to a slow start against some good bowling from Mark D'cruz and James Salisbury who made the first breakthrough with the score on 28. James has had a great season for us not always having the best of luck but ended up bowling 30 overs with an economy rate of 2.5. Frim this point forward Fives played sensibly and built th score up to 105 for 1 at the halfway stage. ALL the park bowlers tried their hardest but Fives accellerated well and despite Walheed hittting the woodwork twice Park really toiled in the field. Some tired feilding and bowling allowed Fives to get to 272 which was always going to be a tough ask. Anything around 250 and we would have got them.
Parks openers did what we asked of them and were unlucky when Matt Tarr went for 15 to a top class catch. Matt has been a top class opener for us all season, full of courage, determination and skill and an average of 67 in this competition. Luggy and Ciggy (The Shenfield boys) battled on bravely against some tight bowling and got us to the halfway stage at a below par 80 but we felt OK as we had only lost 1 wicket. The first over back we lost Luggy and Skipper Jack Kliber came to the wicket. What followed was a truely remarkable innings and I have never seen a better one by a colt. Don't forget these were good bowlers and Jack just took them to peices with some wonderful controlled, powerfull and nearly always straight hitting. Fives were reelling as Jack, well supported by Ciggy slowly brought us back into the game by putting on 111 in just 14 overs. We lost Jack and Ciggy in short succession and then it was all over as we fizzelled out 39 runs short in the 39th over. Jacks knock deserved victory but it wasn't to be and I was extremely proud of the boys as they stuck to the task not just in this game but all season. They are a great bunch of kids and I wish them all well in life as well as in sport and I feel sure they have learned and enjoyed their time as Colts at GPRCC.
I must say thanks for the people who have helped all season. Thanks to Pete Collier for doing the second innings scoring yesterday, the scorebook has seldom been so neat. Karen Kliber for her colourful scoring (and langauge!!!) all season and for the excellent tea she put on for the boys yesterday (and half of Romford!!). Thanks to those at the club who have helped me, Marje for doing the teas, Les Hall in particlar for his assistance and support and all the senior players who have umpired as well as offered encouragement and advise. Its been a great year!!!
