WANSTEAD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by six wickets - 18 Points
Match report
Park owed much of this win to a brilliant all round performance by Rudi Filmalter. He took 5 for 37 and scored 89 not out and took a catch.
Park skipper Patient won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Wanstead to bat first. Wanstead were off to a good start with Hussain and Singh both going well, scoring at around five an over. Hussain was smartly run out by Satyam Ahuja for 37. At twenty overs Wanstead were 120 for 1. Even though the run rate was high Park were getting through their overs quickly, having bowled 26 overs by 2:15.
The dismissal of Singh, for 71, after the drinks break allowed Park to claw their way back into the game. Abdul Zabwalla bowled a tight and controlled spell and Filmalter when brought into the attack took wickets regularly to curtail the scoring rate. So much so that Wanstead only scored 30 runs between 30 and 40 overs.
When Park batted they soon found themselves in trouble. With both Michael Pegram and Saghir Khan both going cheaply. Patel and Patient started the re-building process. Patel was then run out after Patient didn't hear his call. The brought Filmalter to the crease. He was a bit fortunate to start almost chopping on to his stumps a couple of times. But he became more fluent as his innings progressed. He and patient put on 107 before Patient holed out to deep backward square.
This brought recent recruit John Jones to the crease. He and Filmalter finished the game off with nine overs to spare. Jones making a composed 31.
