BRENTWOOD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 06 Aug 2005 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost
Match report
Missing three batsmen from the previous week's line up, and with three other changes as the result of availability higher in the club, the team for the top 4 clash with Brentwood was somewhat short of batting. Skipper for the day Dave Cobill won the toss and put the opposition in, but two early missed chances allowed the home team to settle. Indeed there were a further three missed chances in the field, one off the last ball to deny Park a fourth bowling point, and such errors are always costly and proved so. With seamer Stuart Riley also breaking down after three balls, Andy Jenner was quickly into the attack and embarked on a marathon spell. Despite the home team's progress, with the score 93 for 1 his nagging swing bowling started to reap a reward and six wickets fell for 40 runs, including the important dismissal of Tony Jones who had scored an aggressive 64. Dave Cobill nipped in with two wickets in this period, and at 139 for 7 the chance was there for Park to bowl out their rivals cheaply. It was not to be as Ash Patel 43 not out and Trevor Coote 24 added 62 to take the game away and post a par score. Jenner finished with 6 for 96 from 25.3 overs, and Cobill 2 for 52 from 11 overs.
The Park reply was stillborn against some fine medium pace bowling from Peter Bainbridge. He obtained movement off the pitch and through the air and Park's makeshift batting subsided to 34 for 5. Andy Jenner marshalled a rearguard action with colt Russell Helum, but the latter's exuberance saw him stumped for 16 after 27 had been added, and Bainbridge then completed a hat trick of Winmill (caught), Riley and Richards (both bowled). The last pair resisted for another five overs before that man Bainbridge bowled Jenner for a worthy 23 to finish the match and himself finish with the terrific figures of 15.5 overs, 6 maidens, 8 for 27!
Not a good day at the office for the 3rds, but with the fotunes of the teams in this division swinging from week to week they are still in the title hunt. Next week it is Upminster at home.
