West Essex v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 16's on Sun 10 Jul 2005 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 7 wickets
Match report
Since beating Wanstead and being rained off against Woodford Wells it became obvious that this was going to be the vital game in the season so far. The boys played their socks off in this one and despite West Essex getting off to a bit of a flier the boys knew that they were just as likely to get themselves out. Ed Gavigan made the breackthrough when he got the opener Riaz to glove one while hooking and Jack Kiliber took the first of four catches behind the wicket. Fellow opener Patel fell in almost the identical fashion but this time Ravi Rajani was the bowler. Ravi's next wicket was courtesy of a fine catch running back from Mid on by James Salisbury. Ravi then proceeded to tear the heart out of the West's middle order and finished his 6 overs with an excellent return of 5-23. This included 8 wides!!! Well bowled Ravi we will have to sort the wides out on Friday!!. It was great to see the return of Ryan Lugg from injury who deserved a lot more than the solitary one wicket he got. Louis Stuckey came into the attack to take 2 vital wickets before Eddie Gavigan returned to end a troublesome last wicket partnership. A very symetrical performance from Eddie who took the firs and last wickets of the innings. West Essex all out for 120 in 31.4 overs.
Parks reply was quite clinical and professional. Matt Tarr and James Salisbury refused to be intimidated by the short stuff and despatched much of it to the boundary. James Salisbury was out for 46 when the score was 86 and from this position Park were never going to lose. Matt Tarr was still there at the close continuing his fine form in this tournament and showing fine determination and concentration. Lost a few wickets as we have tended to do this season as we have closed out matches but all in all a performance to be proud of boys.
The only thing that can stop us qualifying for the next stage is complacency and I am confident if we take this approach into our next two games the quarter finals await. Don't any of you dare go on holiday in July/August. Next week another away game at Buckhurst Hill. I take it everyone is available unless I hear otherwise. I have picked 13 for the game so please go on the website and confirm your availability so I can name the final XI before the end of the week. Special thanks to Steve Foster for travelling to West Essex at short notice to umpire for us and to Karen Kliber for doing the scoring.
