Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 2nd X1 v RAPHAEL on Sun 31 May 2009 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
In beautiful weather at Gallows visiting Raphael elected to bat having won the toss and a steady opening stand saw 40 scored before a fine catch at point by Kulasena off Evans accounted for Coxon. Chilli looked to attack from early in his innings but an ambitious quick single accounted for his partner as a direct hit saw him run out. Although Chilli was accumulating a score, disciplined bowling backed up with some good fielding kept the total in check, the under 16 trio of Jakk Carver, Harry Gray and James Pegram all bowling well while the leg spin of Asif found turn on a responsive pitch. Some late blows from Birchard , who finished unbeaten on 50, pushed the total up to 201 for the declaration.
In reply Brian Kulasena took little time to get into his stride, playing a typically attacking innings and when he was finally well caught at long on he had scored 80 out of an opening stand of 115 with James Evans. Michael Pegram kept the momentum going, seeing the innings through to the end with an impressive unbeaten 40 while Muhammad Asif joined him after Evans had fallen LBW just short of a half century.
