HERTFORD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 2nd X1 on Sun 24 May 2009 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 77 runs
Match report
After the trials of last week's drive to South Hampstead this was a relatively straightfoward journey to Hertfordshire (except for Gordon who required the AA's assistance!) for a enjoyable fixture played in a friendly atmosphere on an attractive ground in glorious weather.
The flat wicket, fast outfield and occasional short boundary looked inviting and so it proved as GP&R's opening pair went for their shots from the first ball. The run rate started at 10 an over and barely let up all innings as Park's more experienced side took advantage of the conditions. The fast scoring allowed for an early declaration at 263-4 after 32 overs with half centuries for Brian Kulasena and Dave Pasola.
James Evans showed hidden talents as a makeshift opening bowler to deliver a fine spell and claim the first two wickets. The spin of Chris McKie and Pete Collier accounted for several more wickets and the final hour started with 5 wickets to take. Carlson and Barbett made a stand for the home side but once Carlson fell for a fine 60 holing out on the boundary the target looked out of reach. Kulasena's off spin claimed two wickets and with 10 overs still to go Collier wrapped up the innings bowling Kass to claim the win, Chris McKie finishing with 4-56 from his 17 overs.
