Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v SOUTH WOODFORD 5TH on Sat 15 Aug 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 9 wickets
Match report
Park got back to their winning ways with a comprehensive 9 wicket success against a young South Woodford side. the visitors batted first on a slow Royal Liberty pitch and lost a wicket in the 2nd over to Sam Farrow. A second "wicket" fell three balls later to a catch off Gurjit Jutla but with the batsman half way to the pavilion the umpire indicated that he had called no ball! However Sam Farrow soon claimed a second victim to leave South 20 for 2. Thereafter the number three colt Aznen Mahmood played a very assured and measured innings whilst others tried to stay with him as Park's attack steadily whittled their way through the batting, despite some at times shoddy ground fielding (but Rajesh Kanojia did take a very well judged catch at cover and Abdul Zabwala two good catche as well). Mahmood played some nice shots off his legs and defended with a straight bat and was 8th out for an excellent 89 having steered his side to 156, and immediately he was out the final wicket fell to a well judged catch by Gurjit Jutla at mid on. The Park attack was very consistent with Andy Jenner picking up 3 for 15 off 11 overs, Sam Farrow 2 for 16 off 6, Abdul Zabwala 2 for 30 of 8, Rajesh Kanojia 2 for 40 off 8.
With plenty of time to chase the runs Park raced away when they batted but lost Ian Greenwood to a peach of a delivery with the score on 23. Arasu Balasobramian carried on from where he left off last week with some cracking shots all round the wicket and he was ably supported by Abdul Zabwala as the pair took advantage of some erratic South Woodford bowling. Abdul was out for 39 off a mishit drive with the score on 130 having added 103 in 15 overs with Arasu and Andrew Jones had time to stroke 5 not out before Arasu smote the winning boundary, finishing 79 not out with 12 fours as Park won in only 22 overs.
