WANSTEAD 5TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 11 Jul 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 5 wickets

Match report Improving Park merited their win away at table leaders Wanstead 5th with the home team commendably staying on the field in deteriorating conditions in the last hour as a close match ebbed and flowed, the bowling side never being out of the game. Chasing a below par score of 161 by Wanstead, Park had a fine start by Arasu Balasobramaniam and Ian Greenwood against some aggressive seam bowling and put on 47 before the former was out gor a well made 25. Ian departed to a fantastic catch at short extra cover off a powerful drive and Sam Bragg played some nice shots before chancing his arm and being caught to leave Park 100 for 3 and the last hour to play. 62 off 20 overs with 7 wickets in hand in poor conditions, but a good position quickly became 111 for 5 as the home team bowled well to line and length. Fortunately Ammar Zahid at number 3 provided the anchor role in a disciplined innings to keep one end solid, and skipper Anil Patel used his experience to ensure no immediate alarms although the scoring was patchy. The total inched upwards as the drizzle fell more heavily but the target finally became 4 off 6 balls, the first ball of the last over going for 4 to seal the match. Ammar ended 36 not out and Anil 30 not out. Pick of the Wanstead bowlers was junior colt James Fitzgerald with 4 economical wickets.
Earlier Park had won the toss and asked Wanstead to take first use of a green pitch that played pretty well throughout. Impressive opening spells by colts James Pegram and Gurjit Jutla against aggressive batting from the home team's talented top three paid dividends as the catches were held and all three departed. Rajesh Kaojia nipped out two more but the middle order played steadily with a well paced 55 for the number 5 to balance the innings and they proceeded to 130 for 5 before the returning Pegram and Jutla took the last five wickets backed by superb catching from Sam Bragg and Sam Hewitt, the former's catch at mid off one of the catches of the season as he dived backwards as the ball went over his shoulder! Both seamers deserved their three and four wickets respectively and were well supported by the other bowlers, Kanojia and Lopes doing a good containing job in the middle overs, backed by a good all round fielding display.
