BELHUS 3RD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 11 Jul 2009 at 1pm
Match was Drawn 11 points
Match report
Cricket is a great sport an individual battle amoungst a team sport. But battles and sacrifices on a cricket field aren't often the whole story.
The youth of GPR (Plus Pasola, Kier Smith, Suki Jutla and Cobblers) travelled to South Ockendon Rec and played Belhus again. Again we lost the toss and again we were asked to bat, again we did well, Sam Davies 60, Suki 47. Chris Mckie chipped in a good 30 odd. Even Cobs faced one ball, a theme for the day. The maturity shown by the kids on a difficult batting track was superb to watch.
With the ball, Kier Smith removed one opener but the number 3 who made 57 was dropped early on 4 and that swung the game. Clearly a higher level player sixes off the front foot off Kier's bowling signalled some intent. However the other opener did his best to thwart the run chase. Harry Gray bowled well, as did Adam Mckie, Aaron hughes took another wicket nibbling the off stump.
Kier tested the strength of teh Belhus batsmen gential protection several times. Cobblers winced everytime. The last twenty came with Park needing 8 wickets for victory. Thanks to some left arm grenades from Cobblers two were removed with Kier taking another and Chris Mckie a further three. But this left Park two short of a full set.
If we were to win a toss it might help us! But personally the banter and spirit in the side is fanastic and if we keep going we may do very well.
