SOUTH WOODFORD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 05 Sep 2009 at 12 noon
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets 20 points
Match report
Needing to produce their best performance of the season Park did just that. Led expertly by Andy Churchill, Parks bowlers all bowled with control. The opening partnership of Don Miller 2-31, and Ejaz Khan 3-34 bowled out the 20 overs for 65 giving Park the opportunity to tighten the game by bowling out spin in the crucial period after the first 20 overs. Excellent catch from Greg Churchill to dismiss R.Akram at gully set the tone. Tauseef Shahzad tidy behind the stumps and Andy Churchill both also taking catches in the early overs from the openers and Don Miller cleaning up the impressive Nick Browne.
Ali Aslam removing Correya for 22 in a fine spell of left arm spin and the hoq trapping Acharya in front for 25 after some hefty blows, South Woodford were reeling at 108-7. The lower order then folded as Andy Churchill 2-3 and Aslam claiming another wicket saw their opponents bowled out for 124 and failing to score any batting points.
Park were in the box seat but the dismissal of Hoq first ball to Salim Akbar saw the intensity increase. Ali Aslam and Andy Churchill added 30 for the second wicket to steady the chase but Aslam was to fall to Gary Neicho for 10. Any nerves for park were soon settled as Maussim Ali 53 11 4's and Andy Churchill 51 10 4's saw park home to a comfortable victory by 8 wickets in only 32nd over.
Fighting till the end of the season and never giving up even in some soul destroying defeats saw victory ensuring safety in the Premiership for 2010.
