HADLEIGH & THUNDERSLEY v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 02 May 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 8 runs
Match report
Park won through by just 8 runs in a tightly contested match.
Winning the toss and batting first Park got off to a steady start before losing Russ Collard for 22 bowled by Gibbons. Some indisciplined batting meant Park struggled to build any partnerships.Baber Choudhary 31, 17 year old Brian Kulasena made a rapid 27 with some great strikes before being bowled. Ali Aslam playing a patient 37 before trying to increase the tempo and falling with 5 overs to go. Tauseef made a steady 22 and Park lost their last wicket in the last over with the second run out of the innings. Hadleigh fielded and bowled superbly.
Parks 202 was only just a competitive score with small boundaries Parks bowlers were always up against it. Some fine bowling by Don Miller Sean Kingston and Ejaz Khan reduced the hosts to 47-3 but well paced innings from J.Robbins and overseas D.Jackson 20 kept them within touching distance. The introduction of Ali Aslam and Ejaz Khan produced a fine bowling partnership. With the run rate increasing the pressure mounted and wickets started to fall Aslam 2-37 and Ejaz 2-29 put Hadleigh behind. The reintroduction of Miller and Kingston bought 4 wickets for only 9 runs to reduce Hadleigh to 155-9 but some fine spirited batting from Lowes 21 and Solleux 17 bought the home side to within 8 runs needed from the last over. The first ball from waheed bought about panic and Solleux was run out with 5 balls to spare and giving Park victory by 8 runs.
A tight well contested match.
