Match report Gidea Park and Romford won their first round cup match with a comfortable 165 run victory at Benfleet.
Park amassed 321-7 with Russ Collard 131 and Matthew Gregory 98 put on a stand of 217 for the first wicket in 35 overs. Matthew falling 2 short of a deserved first ton being bowled around his legs after a 113 ball stay containing some classy shots and hopefully just a small snippet of what maybe to come. Russ completing his ton in 126 minutes and 113 balls with 16 4's and 5 6's finally falling run out for 131. Runs were shared out in the final overs and Park passed 300 in the 43rd over. Paul Tremain 2-23 and Alfie Pritchard 2-77 were the pick of a resolute Benfleet attack.
Benfleet got off to a fine start adding 65 for the first wicket Paul Tremain a fine 40 before falling to Waheed well caught by Tauseef behind the wicket. Once the opening partnership was broke the wickets came at a steadier rate. Park bowled with discipline and made runs hard to come by. Chasing an already steep run rate Benfleet's task became impossible as wickets feel. Jenkins finally fell for 34. M. Tremain 37 were the main contributors to the final total of 156-9. Ejaz 2-31 the pick of the bowlers with Moazzim 3-2 towards the end of the innings, Waheed 1-19, Baber 1-31, Brian Kulasena 1-12, Russ 1-14 all helped to contain Benfleet.
