Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 3rd X1 v Rainham on Sun 30 May 2004 at 2.00pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 4 wickets
Match report
An excellent match played in an excellent spirit with both teams ensuring the youngsters participated in what turned out to be a tight match with Park just scraping home with 3 balls to spare.
Park took the field and initially gave very little away with Ryan Sammons clean bowling the Rainham opener, the first of three clean bowled he was to get in the day and Adam locke bowling with pace and movement at the other end. Just as itlooked like Rainham may be getting away excellent spells from Andy D'cruz and Nick ford in particlar(10-2-31-1) brought some control back. Ryan Sammons came back into the attack to clean bowl another two and eventually rainham declared on 170-6.
I expected Park to get these runs quite easlily but after the openers failed and Young Billy payne played a nice cameo innings of 16 Park looked in trouble. The more experienced Payne snr and Bob Coombe then steadied things with scores of 42 and 34 respectively before Adam Locke showed really composure and some good skill to steer Park to victory with three balls to spare. Mention ought to be given to 13 crucila runs at the death from Peter Thain and a 6 he hit in particlar which took the pressure off when things were looking particlarly tight
