Match report With both sides playing with ten men Park lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a Polo Field pitch which was drying after heavy overnight rain. Batting conditions were not easy as the new ball gripped and bounced, and Chris Mckie got one that stopped on him. With Park 18 for 2 there was no respite as slow bowlers Nathan Woods and Dave Evans also got a lot of purchase on the ball to make life difficult. Sam Davies played well for 18 but mistimed a cover drive and was 5th out at 40 and thereafter the innings was held together by Aaron Hughes with an excellent knock of 35 containing four 4s. With support from the lower order he advanced the score to 97 before unluckily dislodging a bail as he stroked a boundary, and the final total was moderately competitive albeit the conditions were easing. For Hutton Dave Parray took 3 for 8 and young leg spinner Woods took 2 for 31 off 8 overs.
In the first over of the Hutton reply Daniel Long made a brilliant stop and throw to run out opener Simons for 0, a great start for Park. Both opening bowlers Jakk Carver and Aaron Hughes bowled good and economical lines and lengths and batting was a test. 40 came up off 15 overs but at this point James Gooday departed for 36 after some good leg spin from Chris McKie put doubt in his mind, well held by Harry Gray. Woods followed soon after as the Park bowlers stuck to their task, Mckie finishing his spell for the well earned figures of 8 overs 2 maidens 1 for 19. Runs were easier to gain as the match wore on but it was not until the 33rd overtbnat the winning boundary was struck by hutton skipper Darren Howard. Park's young bowlers can be pleased with their performances and they were well assisted in the field; afterwards both captains agreed that if Park had scored 120 then this would have been a testing score.
The Jeff Rodriques Trophy for over 40s/under 15s is a good competition for younger colts to blend in with older players, and this match was played in a very good atmosphere and was enjoyed by both teams. Thanks to all who played and supported and to Gordon McKie for organising the lads and scoring duties on the day.
