Harlow v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 16's on Sun 13 Jun 2004 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 5 runs
Match report
Gidea Park won the toss and elected to field as skippper for the day Craig Bray fancied chasing. It looked like a good decision as tight bowling by Parks opening bowlers Jason Togood and Edward Gavigan ensured that Harlow's progress was slow. Harlow got to the 20 over stage with 79-0. It was a good platform but then some good legspin from Andy D'cruz (8-5-10-3 )supported by some good offspin from Peter Collier (8-2-37-2) looked like we could restrict Harlow to between 160-170. This wasn't to be however and Harlow took 60 runs off the last 6 overs and to be honest Park's fielding creaked under the pressure. The tagket set then was 185.
Parks reply got off to the worst possible start with Matt Tarr being given out LBW to the second ball of the match. It was a poor decision given very quickly which upset the lads and in fact made them more determined to perform well. Peter Collier was bowled to leave Park on 2-2. A patient innings from Andy D'cruz and a skillful knock from Jason Toogood saw Park rebuild to 55 before Andy D'cruz was LBW for 13. Jason's dismissal soon after was a major disappointment he was looking in great nick if he could just tighten his game up this boy has got some big scores in him at this level. A flurry of wickets then saw Park on 61-6 but the lads refused to give in. Skipper Craig Bray (down at number 8 after finding the job of skippering mentally exhausting) and Tom Keshaw set about building again. Craig batted as freely as i have seen him bat for quite some time and Tom batted with the maturity that saw him punish the bad ball while making sure the score kept ticking over. When Craig was out Park still need sixty but Billy Payne made a telling contribution before being needlessly run out with just 30 required. Tom hit a richly deserved maiden 50 for the club and deserved to lead the team from the pitch with a victory but it wasn't to be due to a brilliant caught and bowled. Tom was out with just 8 needed for victory. Ravi Ranjani was then caught behind with 11 balls to go. Heartbreaking but a great performance of courage and skill with the only downside being the result. Well done lads you did us proud (but extra fielding practice on Friday!!!)
