Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 2nd X1 v Hornchurch Athletic on Sun 11 Aug 2002 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 1 Wicket
Match report
Park lost the toss & Athletic decided to bat first, they got off to a good start, Rudgeley & Humphries putting on 63 for the 1st wicket. Humphries was caught & bowled by Gary Coombe, this turned out to be the 1st of 4 wickets for the young leg spinner. At the other veteran left arm slow bolwer(is that seam or spin hhhmmmm) and occasional Bob Anderson lookalike Dave Cobill had his 1st bowl since returning from holiday. He returned with good figures of 3-62 from 18 overs bowling at the short end.
Micheal Moonie chipped in with 2 wickets in his second spell bowling a far better line than the first spell and the Athletic innings was wrapped up in the 47th over.
The Park reply started poorly Stewart Weatherill going early for 1, Collier following 33 runs later for 21 and Bob Coombe didn't even trouble the scorers. Chris Goldsmith played well for his 55 before holing out to mid-on. Andrew D'Cruz & skipper Patient seemed to have park coasting home putting on 62 before Patient dragged a long hop on with the score on 159. This started a collapse in which 5 wickets fell for 10 runs, 4 of those being byes. It was left to last pair of Cobill & D'Cruz senior to score the wininning runs. Cobill managed this by pushing the ball through square cover, & scammering the 2 required runs in the 19 over of the final 20, much to Park's relief.
