Dartfordians v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 2nd X1 on Sun 21 Jul 2002 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 1 Wicket
Match report
Ten man Park won the toss & decided to field first in a 40 over per side game. A young opening attack of keir Smith & Jason Toogood bowled a tight opening spell, both picked up a wicket as Park worked hard to keep the run rate down. Jon Roberts had his 1st spell of bowling in the Sunday 2's trying hard, but finding the step up a little unforgiving as the one bad ball an over got put away. At the other end the skipper didn't find things that easy himself, 3 poor overs cost him dear. Also Colin Croft father of colt Alan played his first game for 3 years and bowled 5 tidy overs. The two openers came back at the death and bowled well again Jason picking up a couple of wickets and keir not going for many runs. Park were aided by one particular Dartfordians batsman as he chalked up 3 runouts into the bargain .
In reply Park didn't help themselves as Stewart Weatherill was run out in the second over by Keith Wright. It was the 2nd time in 2 years that Weatherill has been run out at this ground. Wright & new man at the crease Chris Goldsmith set about putting Park back on course. Their partnership was starting to flourish when Wright holed out to long-off for 39. Goldsmith went not to long afterwards bowled for 43. There was then another run out as Chris Webber was left stranded at the non-strikers end as a Matt Hiscock drive was touched onto the stumps by the bowler. Hiscock & Jon Roberts didn't last to much longer. Skipper Patient & colt Toogood came together & started to rebulid the Park innings. Toogood eventually was bowled by a slower ball, Colin Croft followed 2 balls later & it left the final pair 17 runs to get. They scraped home in the 39th over with Patient hitting the wininning boundary.
