OLD PARKONIANS v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 30 Aug 2008 at 1PM
Match was Drawn

Match report On a rare fine and sunny day this match was a big disappointment as Old Parks 3rds won the toss on a good batting pitch with a fast outfield, chose to field and then made no effort to try for a win. Indeed, in the GPR innings they bowled only 43 overs in three hours, scoreboard discipline was lax when they were batting, and generally made it a wasted afternoon for GPR who did their best to keep the game moving and achieve a result. It takes two teams to make a match!
GPR had set off at a good pace against some amiable bowling with Graig Bray continuing where he left off last week with some excellent shots and six fours in his 45, and Baljit Jutla very composed for his 28. they added 77 for the first wicket before a slight stutter reduced the visitors to 116 for 4. what followed was a superb piece of hitting from Chris Lamb as he blasted 16 fours in a terrific 82 accompanied by Adam McKie who kept things ticking along in another very promising innings of 64 not out (10 fours). The youngsters added 137 in 17 overs and made up with their efforts to counter the dilatory Old Parks over rate and make sure GPR were in a position to declare with a par score of 268 in good batting conditions.
Old Parks response was a real contrast as they played correctly and with no sense of urgency to try and get on top of the bowling. The GPR seamers Waleed Wain, Harvir Jutla and Adam Mckie both bowled some testing deliveries, but that was to be expected, but the pitch was good and the field close set so finding gaps should not have proved as difficult as happened! At the same time the players who umpired were very conservative in their interpretation of wides, it was almost a one day international from that point of view, and with no action going on from the batting it was proving hard for GPR to break through. Colt Chris McKie bowled a lengthy spell of leg breaks, and veteran Dave Cobill kept the ball up to the bat with his slow left armers, but this did not seem to encourage the batsmen and by the last 20 overs and the score 100 for 2 the match was only going one way. Amit Kalley played some good shots in his 56 to show what might have been with a more positive attitude, and in the last over of the game opener Cox was out for 89 scored at just over two runs an over.
GPR are now 5th in their first season at a higher level, and in the final match at Gallows corner next week face Billericay who are challenging for promotion.
