Match report Park entered this match with a spell of good form behind them but from the time that the toss was lost (yet again - only two winning tosses in 14 attampts!)the match slipped further and further away. In the end a 6 wicket defeat represented a bad day at the office as Benfleet belied their league position and won comfortably. Veteran Ron Steed wheeled away for 31 overs to take 2 for 70 with his gentle swing and at the start he bowled 12 overs for 11 runs, stifling the Park batting especially after Baljit Jutla, who looked in good touch, was out for 23. After 26 overs the score was only 42 for 4 and despite a good stand between Adam McKie (78 not out) and Sam Davies (22), who added 57 in 15 overs to stabilise the innings there was a flurry of wickets thereafter and at 107 for 6 and no hope of bonus points Park had to bat beyond 52 overs to gain a semblance of a score to win. Adam McKie played a very responsible knock with some excellent strokes producing seven boundaries and and had good support fron the skipper Andy Jenner, playing only his second game of the season, as they added 67 before the declaration was made leaving the visitors 44 overs to get the runs (or put another way, 44 overs for Park to hold their catches and win the match). For Benfleet Peter Hitchcock took 4 for 44 off 17 overs.
The Benfleet reply slipped to 20 for 2 in the face of very good seam bowling from Harvir Jutla, who bowled with some pace and good swing, and Adam McKie, who had a fine all round match. Unfortunately number 4 Brady was dropped five times at various stages of his robust innings of 80 as he attacked the bowling and with other chances going begging he and number four Masson (39) took the game away from Park despite the best efforts of the two seamers who were the best bowlers for the home side on the day. They added 120 and ensured a comfortable win. Catches win matches, they say, and this game was no exception!
Next week we are away to Epping 3rds and looking to put this performance behind us.
