Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v OLD SOUTHENDIANS on Sat 26 Jul 2008 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 8 wickets
Match report
On the warmest day of the year for cricket Park's young team produced a very good all round display to beat the Old Soutnhendians by 8 wickets. Losing the toss (again!) Park saw the visitors elect to bat on a Gallows strip that had a bit of pace and bounce and was ideal for batting, and Jakk Carver produced the breakthrough to dismiss both openers in a spell of 5 overs 2 for 9. Adam Mckie was equally on the money and he produced the third wicket courtesy of a catch by Tommy Glanville and Ahmed Butt claimed a fourth to reduce the visitors to 38 for 4 after 22 overs. Skipper Nathan Linfield profited from a reprieve for a caught behind decision when he was 2, and he and Tom Leftley took the score to the 80's before a cluster of wickets saw 89 for 7 after 36 overs. From this point the experienced and obdurate Bob Fulford (29)helped his captain add 116 for the 8th wicket in 16 overs as Linfield drove and pulled his way to a century, making good use of the excellent batting pitch and finishing 102 not out. A final score of 208 was higher than expected after the poor start to the innings but was below par for the conditions. All the bowlers stuck to their task with Jakk Carver, Ahmed Butt and Simon Trowse each picking up two wickets and Adam Mckie and Dave Cobill one apiece.
Park began their reply confidently with 21 on the board in three overs, but lost Elliott Skinner when he chipped one to mid on and was well held. Ashu Dahbi was in good touch however and he and Ammar Zahid were rarely troubled as they added 82 in 16 overs before Ammar was caught and bowled for 24. Adam Mckie immediately got into his stride with some fine straight drives as Ashu took advantage of anything loose in an impressive knock of eight 4s and two 6s. 72 were needed off the last 20 overs and Park won with 7 overs to spare, Ashu going from 89 to to his maiden century for the club in two shots to finish 101 not out. Adam finshed 44 not out to complete a good all round display by the team that sees them move up the table in a tighly bunched group of clubs.
Next week we entertain Orsett 3rds at Gallows Corner.
