Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v COLCHESTER & EAST ESSEX on Sat 26 Jul 2008 at 11.30AM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 109 runs
Match report
Park recorded their 5th win of the season with a comprehensive victory over Colchester.
Winning the toss Park gambled and chose to bat first in search of a 25 point victory. Choudhary was soon dismissed for 8 before Collard and Sohal bought a needed stability adding 77 for the second wicket before Collard was to be one of 3 run outs and a steady flow of wickets saw park stumble. Shallow well caught down the leg side for 6, Sohal 38 went next caught at mid wicket but Chris Swainland stood firm compiling 43. Afridi went for 25 Ferns run out for 22 and Evans run out for 3 saw Park faltering at 185-6. Ali Aslam and Chris Swainland added 20 before the last 3 wickets fell for 5 runs and Park were left to defend 210. Sri Lankan Gajanayake finishing with 5-69
In reply Afridi dismissed Austin caught behind by Swainland and the dangerman Gajanayake classically bowled with a swinging full pitch delivery to leave Colchester 14-2. Aslam came into the attack and with Miller they claimed 3 quick wickets reducing Colchester to 62-5 at tea taking some fine catches. Parks opposition looked demoralised and with Ferns removing George for 0 LBW, Aslam continued to bowl with flight and fantastic control as Colchester couldn't find anywhere to hide. Aslam with 2 wickets after tea finishing with 4-33 and with the introduction of Ejaz Khan Park soon completed a fine victory out playing their opponents. Ejaz claiming the last 2 wickets to give Park a victory by 109 runs. A huge gamble paying dividends allowing Park to move into second place 16 points behind the leaders Wanstead.
