BRENTWOOD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 21 Jun 2008 at 11.30AM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 18 runs 25 points

Match report A delayed start saw Brentwood ask Gidea Park to bat on a wicket that definitely offered something to the bowlers all day.

Steady wickets were the order of the day with only the class of Alex Roberts with 52 offering and resistance to Brentwood pressure. Richard Whitehall claimed the first 3 park wickets and with the quick introduction of Shillingford Park were soon 5 wickets down for 50. Roberts going on to notch up a classy 50 found a short term partner in skipper Liam ferns adding 30 to the total before Ferns finally fell to Shillingford for 11. Parks last 3 wickets only adding 16 runs as both Ferns and Roberts fell to Shillingford who duly completed a 5 wicket haul. Ian Belchamber added to the spin strength and he quickly accounted for the last 2 wickets.

Would 120 be enough? It had to be !! To compete with positiveness and intensity was the only option open to Park.

Jon Walford started in positive form but fell to Ali Aslam in the 4th over, the door had been opened. Aslam claimed his second wicket with the dismissal of Morgan stumped by Swainland and Don Miller removing Chadha put the hosts in a difficult position at 25 for 3. The class of Damien Brandy with 31 steadied the innings for Brentwood, Shiilingford came and went for a quick fire 14 before Alex Roberts claimed his wicket well caught down the lag side by Chris Swainland Aslam went over the wicket and had Brandy well caught at short leg by Matt Tarr. Ali Aslam going onto finish with 3-40 from 17 overs. Park could sense a victory. At 77-5 the match was evenly poised but with the pressure now showing Brentwood froze as Park tightened the screw. Roberts was in fine form he had Muwas caught at mid wicket for 4, then clean bowling Richie Whitehall for 17 the score read 100-7 , Richard Walford went LBW to Roberts and Belchamber was bowled for 0 and the final wicket of Riley was LBW to Roberts finishing with 6-35 from 12 overs on his birthday, not a bad day and a great victory for Park in game which lasted only just shy of 5 hours and 72 overs, 222 runs scored and saw 20 wickets fall
