Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 2nd X1 v East Essex Stallions on Sun 24 May 2015 at 13:00
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets chasing 133 D/L

Match report Headline: Another Week, Another Win

Having kicked off the campaign the week before with a nail biting win down at Benfleet, Rogers' men were faced with a new challenge of East Essex Stallions(EES for the purpose of this article as i'm not writing that each time); who had produced rumours of looking to bring a big hitting game to the gallows arena after a batting score of over 300 the previous week. EES Won the toss on the call of heads, and as expected, elected to Bat first.

Swing king Qureshi on Sunday Debut took the new ball with Thompson, who still is trying to work out what I mean when I say he's finally growing into that 6 foot 4 frame of his! Mueez as you'd expect, struck in his second over with a typical leg - off stump swinging ball, drawing the snick, straight into the hands of the new 1's Saturday skipper Jamal Francis at 1st slip - what a signing for a Sunday! Harry at the other end had begun settling into his spell, with signs of him reenacting bambi on ice no more! Beating the edge, good pace and carry, and accurate from run up to delivery was showing how hard young Thomo has been working - and like against Benfleet, not a single wide could be seen! It wasn't long before EES chipped one off H straight into the hands of the skip Rogers - who was still reliving visions of a dropped catch the day before probably helping Stanford to a draw..... but that's for another time! Charlie Gordon come on in replace of mueez and again was hitting the hands of poultney behind the stumps with good pace! One thing we've got to clarify with the Gordon's, what's with all this changing sides about!! Your gonna kill PC constantly moving that sight screen!! Meanwhile at the other end, Thomo and rog combined again as the skip took another catch, having to wait a long time as it went high, and once in the hands we could see it had gathered snow! However, probably moment of the day, Charlie Gordon drew a big outside edge off a full toss off the left handed EES batsman, and diving to his right one handed at backward point, Matt Tarr, who i think we all agree is looking a lot trimmer this year, probably helping in his mobility to get this catch - you really must tell us what supplement or programme it is your on Matthew, but back to story - took the catch! Charlie then got another when; having dropped one, miss fielded one, criticised rogers' fielding who was on 3 catches by this point and then telling tarry he made probably catch of the season look hard, Connor took a sharp catch at gully! Jamal fresh from his 4 wickets the previous day took over from Thomo, and tightened things further. The skip went into the panic mode when at drinks the umpires advised we were 20 mins behind our overate - 6 overs... which if we hadn't completed by 3.30pm, we would be penalised for. Having shown up in a marathon top, Charlie was then asked to literally run up, bowl, run back and repeat! Top effort finishing with 4 wickets. With no Alan..... otherwise known as crofty, the spin twins this week were PC and Joe Gordon. Joe gordon settled in well, bowling tight and getting through his overs quickly against the clock and after PC decided he'd bowl seam up as opposed to the grenades going everywhere before then, Park begun getting back on schedule - Joe finishing with a well deserved 1 for his efforts and PC 2 as EES found the most reliable hands in the club twice out at cow corner Jamal (tells you a lot about the shot selections all day)! Luckily with 7 mins to go having had them 70-7, EES were all out for 176 with still 5 overs left! Namely their skipper Khalid offering the most classy knock. Top effort from the bowlers - however, 8 catches would suggest a good fielding display, but 6 drops I believe could have saved the skip frantically rushing round the field for the second half of their innings!

Whilst Tea was being consumed - a fantastic spread if i do say so myself from me and chef PC having trecked around tesco an hour before the game.... the rain begun to fall and the covers were put on... yh! we are taking this sunday stuff seriously! By the time we could get them off, park had lost 10 overs; therefore a revised total of 133 through D/L was set to win off 30 overs! I know... D/L in sunday cricket!

Not much to report really batting wise apart from 2 quality knocks from the opening pair; who seem to be settling in as the base from which we can build from every week in this league. They didn't give a chance and played some quality shots as Tarr made 69 and Bray 49... only they can discuss should they have run with craig needing 1 for a 50!

MoM: Again, tough one this week. 4 wickets from Charlie whilst sprinting up and down was a good effort but for moving the sight screen several times he misses out! A lot of good things were being said of Thomo afterwards with economical figures having bowled well, but having just missed out last week, I'm going to give it to Tarr for his once in a lifetime catch and batting display... superb from the VC.

Break now for a few weeks but we go again in the league at Stanford... can you bat for the draw in a 40 over game?
