Match report
This is a sad match report to write as it follows a particularly spectacular drubbing at the hands of a competent Hutton side. Ok they may have had some older players, they may have had a number of fee paying school lads who do 'double nets' each evening instead of 'Advanced MSN', but in the end they were just better than us. Praise is worth heaping on David Brett for a great 4-27 from his 8 overs. Including the wicket of the Hutton centurion whom he'd earlier dismissed caught behind whilst on 0, but sadly this went unnoticed by the umpire. All the mainstream bowlers did well, Lloyd taking 2 wickets and Adam bowling a very steady spell at a difficult time, also taking 2. The catching was good but the part time bowlers, who perhaps should not have been called on to bowl when they were, got belted for 75 runs in just 5 overs. Hutton amassed 231 all out but whilst this was less than it originally looked like being, the reply from GPR was appalling. It was an indication of how the teams bowling has advanced but how the batting has stood still this season. The highest scorer was Andrew Jones with 9, Extras was 12 ! It was horrid viewing and the lads must really work harder on this aspect of the game if they are to succeed next year. Patience, working on technique in the nets instead of just trying to slog the cover off the ball, keeping the ball on the floor, defence and clever running between the wickets. All of these things are needed to avoid an embarrassment like this again. That being said, as ever its been a pleasure to work with and watch the boys this season, a nice bunch. A season spoiled by the weather, the absence of players like Anurag and Waleed, the latter getting stolen on match day by the Sunday teams, has made a big difference to the team. Well done again to Steve Brett for his hard work, and the sundry helpers behind the scenes, especially Clare for her help with the teas.
