Match report At last a win for the U16's and a case of 'Bretter' late than never. A fine opening spell from David Brett (brother of Matthew) saw the opposition reduced to 7 for 3 in just 4 overs with Davids first 5 overs conceding just 6 runs for those 3 wickets. Lloyd bowled another quick spell at the other end, pleasingly conceding just one wide. All our bowlers proved far more accurate than the previous week and with Connor taking two nice catches behind the stumps Ardleigh Green were struggling at 47 for 6 after 15 overs , but a steady stand of nearly 60 for the 7th wicket brought them back into the game and they finished with 131 for 8 which was a commendable recovery, despite the efforts of Jamie (2-21) and Adam (1-12) who supported our opening pair well.
In reply GPR wilted a little too quickly for the nerves. Despite only losing Tom Stephen in the first 8 overs, by which time we had scored 32 ( many of them extras ) there was a sudden flurry of wickets as the opposition spinner Simmons rattled through 8 fine overs with 2 for 16, bagging Andy Jones and Connor Halsey. With Adam perishing as well this left Jamie Libby(34) and Simon Trowse to conjure up an excellent stand of 73 for the 5th wicket and see us to 116, enter Lloyd for a quickfire 12 to see us over the finishing line, but full credit must go to Simon Trowse who carried his bat for an excellent 37 runs and without whom we would have struggled to win over a strong Ardleigh Green outfit.
Its great to see a win , especially without players like Anu and Waleed , and also with batters like Andrew, Adam, Connor and Tom all getting out cheaply proving that we have some strength and resilience in the side.
