Match report Gidea Park and Romford beat local rivals Upminster in the 2nd round of the National Cockspur Rum cup at Gallows corner by 18 runs.
Park scoring 207-6 from 45 overs with Arris Afridi top scoring with 60, Andy Churchill 34 and Amar Zaem 28, Jack Kliber 31, Matt Sutton 19 being the main contributors.
After a flurry in the first few overs Park dismissed Ali and then destroyed the Upminster top order, with some fine bowling and quality fielding Parks bowling was too much to handle for Upminster as they crashed to 70-8. Andy Churchill taking 3 wickets in a fine spell with Collard in a joint spell of 14 overs 4 wickets for 40 runs.
When the game seemed to be destined for an early finish enter John Curtis who with Terry Wyatt batted superbly. Curtis launching the ball to all parts and with Wyatt adding some control to the other end put on a stand of 120 for the ninth wicket and a likely defeat was turning into a victory. Andy Churchill then returned to the attack and had Wyatt trapped in front for 60, and with Peck coming to the crease and 18 still needed for victory, he to went lbw to Churchill leaving Curtis stranded on 75 and Andy Churchill picking up a fantastic 5-22 from 7 overs.
Park winning and claiming back the bragging rights from Ollie Peck's Upminster and now play Bromley next week
